AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program

6 Classes $225

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is designed to get puppies and their owners off to a great start. This class is open to any dog that is under 1 year of age, with all necessary Vaccinations. After attending all classes, you and your puppy will be given the STAR Puppy Test. Owners can send in their puppy's test application to the AKC and receive an official AKC S.T.A.R Puppy Certificate and S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal.

What are the benefits of taking the S.T.A.R. Puppy class?

  • The S.T.A.R. Class will teach you how to best communicate with your puppy.

  • Understand how your puppy learn.

  • Gives your puppy the opportunity to safely socialize with other dogs and teaches owners how to safely socialize their puppy.

  • Gives owners the opportunity to have all their puppy raising questions answered. Such as house training, chewing and the best way to start teaching basic commands such as sit, down, stay and come. 

AKC Canine Good Citizen

6 Classes $200

The Canine Good Citizen Class program is open to any dog that is 1 year of age or older. This 10-skill training program is designed to teach the basics of good manners and obedience, teaches the value of responsible ownership, and strengthens the bond between you and your dog at home and in your community. After passing the 10 skills test owners are given a CGC application that can be sent to the AKC to receive an official certification and tittle.

What are the Benefits of the CGC Program?

  • Learning the basics of dog training and how dogs learn.

  • Learn and master skills like Sit, down, Stay, Heel and come.

  • Practice and master greeting strangers and being calm during grooming.

  • Some homeowner's insurance company's offer discounts to dog owners with CGC titles. Landlords considered it a bonus when renting an apartment.

  • The CGC title is a starting point for owners wishing to train their dog as a therapy or service dog.

AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen Test

AKC Urban CGC is a public access test that demonstrates dogs are well-behaved and well-trained when in public settings. Urban CGC requires that the dog demonstrate CGC skills and beyond in a setting that includes traffic, crowds, noises, smells and other distractions that are present in a city or town. As with Canine Good Citizen, AKC Urban CGC is a 10-step test of skills that dogs must pass to earn the official AKC Urban CGC title.

Test Requirements and Setting

  • Must already have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or title on record at AKC.

  • Must have an AKC number of one of 3 types (AKC registration number, Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) number, or AKC Canine Partners number)

  • AKC Urban CGC will be administered in a place where there are cars, streets to be crossed, noises, and distractions. This test is administered in the real world; it is not simulated.

AKC  Community Canine Test

AKC Community Canine is the advanced level of AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program. As with CGC, Community Canine has a 10-step test of skills that dogs must pass to earn the official AKC Community Canine title.

Test Requirements and Setting

  • ​The CGC test and the AKC Community Canine test may be taken on the same day.

  • Must have an AKC number of one of 3 types (AKC registration number, PAL number, or AKC Canine Partners number). All dogs, including mixed breeds, can get an AKC number. 

  • AKC Community Canine will be conducted at a local Pet Store or Home Depo.
